First Suffolk Dog Day is not to be sniffed at August 16th Helmingham Hall
It’s time to pretty up your pooches, massage your mutts and drill your dogs in readiness for a new annual event in the canine calendar.
The inaugural annual Suffolk Dog Day on August 16, 2008, looks likely to opened by former BBC One Man and His Dog and Animal Hospital presenter Shauna Lowry, who is currently relocating to the area. Hours of canine capers are promised at the event to be held at Helmingham Hall, by kind invitation of Lord and Lady Tollemache, to benefit The Suffolk Foundation.

This is no ordinary day in the doggie diary, but a fun family occasion to celebrate a man’s best friend in all his/her guises. No matter your pooch of preference, there’s a class for all…and the owners.
From the Perkiest Pup to OAP’s (old age pooch’s), the Dog from the Block for mixed breeds, Movers and Shakers agility class, to The Must Have Mutt, celebrity judges will be sniffing out the waggiest winners. There’s no such thing as a bad dog as all entrants will leave with a doggy bag.
Alongside the canine capers will be demonstrations from The Leonberger Club of Great Britain Water Rescue and Suffolk Constabulary Police dogs. Children’s entertainments will include guess the name of the dog, how much is that doggy in the window? Pin the Tail on the Dog, face painting and Punch and Judy, doggy style!
Stalls include Trullock and Harris of Framlingham, Petzcrazee of Ipswich, Paravannis ice-cream, Paddy and Scott coffee, Thurlow Nunn Standen, Skinners Feeds, and if all the exercise proves too tiring reviving refreshments from The Hair of the Dog Bar, to Hot Dogs and Do-g-nuts will be on sale.
Helmingham is renowned for its beautiful gardens designed by Lady Tollemache, gold medal winner at Chelsea Flower Show. The Park with its herds of both red & fallow deer and famous oaks will create a stunning natural backdrop for Dog Day 2008.
Every Dog must have his day…Make August 16th as a date for your diary to ensure you’re not barking up the wrong tree!…Woof, Woof!
Gates open 11am-5.30pm. Tickets, which include free entry to the Helming ham Gardens, are priced £5, and £3, for adults and children respectively. There is a £5 entry fee per dog.
For advance entry tickets at a reduced price and to enter your dog in a class visit Suffolk Dog Day or call 01473 734125.
